The idea

Moving to land is one of the biggest decisions a family can make. There are budgets to stress-test, climates to understand, residency rules to compare, and a thousand small questions about soil, animals, water and neighbours. Most people do it with a spreadsheet, a handful of bookmarks and a lot of hope.

Plan Our Life replaces that chaos with one calm workspace. You tell us your household, budget, skills and the countries or regions you are considering. We help you see what the move really takes — in numbers, sources and a year-by-year plan.

What you get

  • A land brief tuned to your goals: hectares or acres, water access, buildings, climate zone and soil type.
  • Real costs in your currency and units: purchase, renovation, running costs and a household food budget.
  • A growing and animal plan that shows what to plant, when to plant it, and how much land and time it takes to feed your household.
  • Region-specific guidance for the Nordics and beyond, including hunting, fishing and foraging seasons where they apply.
  • A step-by-step journey you can share with your partner, lender, agent or advisor — all backed by cited sources.

How it works

  1. Tell us where you stand. Budget, household, skills, time available and the regions you are curious about.
  2. Get your land brief. See what kind of property actually matches your goals, not just what looks nice in a listing.
  3. See the real numbers. Costs, labour and food output in your own currency and units.
  4. Follow a plan that holds. A paced, year-by-year build-up of growing, animals and income shifts.

Who it is for

Plan Our Life is built for families, couples or small households who are serious about moving to land but do not want to rely on gut feeling. You might be comparing Sweden, Finland, Portugal or New Zealand. You might want a kitchen garden first, or you might be planning a full off-grid transition. Either way, the tool is designed to keep the conversation grounded in facts.

Sources and methodology

We pull from public authorities and research bodies — SLU and the Swedish Ministry of Rural Affairs in Sweden, Luke in Finland, NIBIO in Norway, the EU, FAO, USDA and national agencies worldwide. Every calculation shows its certainty level: fact, estimate or assumption. You can read more in our methodology and source library pages.

Privacy and security by default

Your plan data is yours. We use row-level security, encrypted sessions and clear data rights tooling so you can export or delete your information at any time. Read the details in our privacy policy and security overview.
